'Algerian Messi' Becomes First African To Win English PFA 'Player Of The Year' Award

Riyad Mahrez

This time last year, Leicester City Football Club was battling to retain their Premier League status, this year they're champions in-waiting.
And one of the players responsible unsurprisingly won the PFA POTY award last night in London. The man in question? Riyad Mahrez!

The skillful Algerian dubbed "Algerian Messi" by the English press because of his uncanny ability to weave and bob his way through defenders like knife through butter, deservedly picked up the POTY award after inspiring the unlikely title contenders to a 4-0 win over Swansea City yesterday.

Mahrez becomes the first African player to win the coveted PFA POTY award. Kudos to this proud son of Africa!
Mahrez's win is a tribute to people who believe in themselves and aren't afraid of starting small.
