Here are a few tips for you to follow before moving into your new home to help make it a smooth transition and make you feel right at home in your new place.
They are best done before moving your belongings in.
1- Change the locks. You don't know who else has keys to your new home, so change the door locks. Most importantly, the external door locks. If you cannot DIY, it will be cheaper if you buy the locks and have someone install them.
2- Fumigation/Extermination. Have an extermination company spray your new house. Rats, mice, termites, roaches and other uninviting guests that may be lurking around somewhere.
3- Clean. Clean. Clean. Best to clean your new place thoroughly. You can either DIY or pay for a professional cleaning service. The floors, cabinets, windows, counters, bathrooms (consider getting new toilet seats), kitchen, everywhere!
This will make your new place feel fresh.
4- Find out where your mains are. Find out where your circuit breaker box is and make sure each switch is labeled properly. In addition, locate the main water shut off valve.
You don't want to be caught off guard in the case of an emergency that requires you to turn them off.
